The Miracle of Spring!
I was thinking about what I would write this week when I was struck by how the view outside my picture window had changed over the last few days. It had gone from the post-winter drab brown to hints of lush green. The Miracle of Spring!
It always amazes me how nature just knows it is time to “wake up.” The trees begin to turn green, plants sprout from the ground, and wildlife emerges from winter slumber. To me, it brings hope — a new beginning, if you will.
I have lived on a farm pretty much my entire life, and I am always amazed by the cycle of the seasons and how they intertwine with farm life. Late winter and early spring bring the baby calves — the joy of new life. Mid-spring brings the planting of the crops — the anticipation of new growth as we watch that tiny seed grow into something that will, in turn, sustain life.
By midsummer, we see the crops changing: the vibrant yellow of a canola field, the ocean blue of a flax field, and the golden fields of wheat. The colour palette of Mother Nature is truly something else.
Autumn brings the harvest season — a feeling of accomplishment, the growing cycle complete. Then comes winter — a time to rest (in theory). We watch nature slowly go back to sleep for that long winter’s nap, and before long, we can’t wait for it all to begin again.
As it is said, “To everything there is a season.”
I hope this new season of spring brings you hope, joy, and happiness.
