The Third Sunday After Pentecost invites us to reflect on two powerful themes that continue to shape the life of faith: God’s call and Jesus’ ministry of healing and proclaiming the Good News.
Throughout Scripture, God calls ordinary people to extraordinary purposes. We see men and women responding to God’s invitation despite uncertainty, fear, or feelings of inadequacy. God’s call is rarely about having all the answers; instead, it is about trusting the One who calls. Whether it is a prophet, a disciple, or a believer today, God continues to invite people into a relationship of faith and service.

In the Gospels, Jesus demonstrates what that calling looks like in action. He travels from town to town teaching, preaching, and healing. He reaches out to those who are overlooked, hurting, and burdened. His ministry reveals the heart of God—a heart full of compassion, mercy, and love. Jesus does not wait for people to come to Him; He goes where they are, bringing hope to the hopeless and healing to those in need.
The Good News that Jesus proclaimed was not merely words. It was visible in every act of kindness, every healing touch, and every life restored. His message announced that God’s kingdom was near—a kingdom where love overcomes fear, forgiveness overcomes guilt, and hope overcomes despair.
As followers of Christ today, we are called to continue that ministry. While we may not heal in the same miraculous ways as Jesus, we can bring healing through our words, our presence, our prayers, and our acts of compassion. We proclaim the Good News whenever we share God’s love, extend grace, and serve our neighbours with open hearts.
This Sunday offers an opportunity to ask ourselves: How is God calling me today? Where can I bring healing, encouragement, or hope to someone in need? The answers may be found not in grand gestures, but in simple acts of faithfulness.
May we hear God’s call with willing hearts and follow Jesus’ example by sharing His love with a world that longs for hope and healing.
Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness.” — Matthew 9:35.
